The purpose of the article is to study essence right peoples self-determination on example some post-Soviet countries. methodological basis consists methods cognition (analysis, synthesis, induction, deduction, analogy, comparison), general scientific methods, formal-logical method interpretation law, etc. components base are objectivity and a combination critical rational, constructive approaches. Results: after collapse Soviet Union, Socialist Republics became independent sovereign states, but formally rather than practically. military conflicts in South Ossetia, Abkhazia Transnistrian Moldavian Republic, as well Russia's ongoing war against Ukraine, have shown that there still need reassess role importance international political institutions mechanisms for implementing law.
